Privacy Policy

How I collect, use, share, and protect your information, and the choices you have.

Last updated:

Your trust matters to me. This policy is written in plain English so you can understand what happens to your information. If anything is unclear, email me at jessica@girltechhq.com.

1.Who I am and what this policy covers

Girl Tech HQ is run by me, Jessica Anderson. When this policy says "I," "me," or "my," it means me and Girl Tech HQ. You can reach me about privacy at jessica@girltechhq.com.

This policy explains how I collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you visit girltechhq.com, sign up for updates, apply to be a podcast guest, apply to Girl Tech Icons, make a payment through this website, or contact me about anything you found here.

Some Girl Tech HQ programs and events use separate websites or outside platforms. Those services may have their own privacy notices, and those notices govern the information you provide there. I explain this more in Linked services and other sites.

2.Information I collect

I collect information you choose to give me, information created when you use this website, and information from service providers that help me run it.

Podcast newsletter

When you join the Bootstrap CEO podcast list, I collect your first name and email address, along with the date you signed up and where you signed up.

Podcast guest applications

When you apply to be a guest, I collect:

  • Contact details, such as your name, email address, phone number, pronouns, and location.
  • Professional details, such as your job title, company, company website, personal website, LinkedIn profile, and bio.
  • Your story, the topics you want to talk about, and your answers to the application questions.
  • Files you choose to upload, such as a headshot, company logo, media kit, speaker sheet, book cover, or supporting document.
  • A record of the confirmations you tick, such as agreeing to be contacted about your application, and notes I add while reviewing it.

Girl Tech Icons chapter applications

When you apply to contribute a chapter to Girl Tech Icons, I collect your name, email address, LinkedIn profile, website, role, and company. I also collect your answers about your business, your expertise, your proposed chapter, your audience and community reach, your book launch plans, and your readiness to meet the program's investment and deadlines.

Payments

Payments on this website, such as the Girl Tech Icons application fee, are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your payment card and billing details directly. I receive transaction records, such as your email address, the amount, the date, and whether the payment succeeded. I do not receive or store your full card number.

When you contact me

The contact form on this website opens your own email app with your message filled in. Nothing is sent to this website. When you email me, I receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write.

Administrator accounts

Site administrators sign in with an email address and password so they can review applications and manage content. Visitors do not need an account to use this website.

Technical information

Like most websites, this site and the services that run it automatically receive some technical information when you visit. This can include your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, the pages you request, the page that sent you here, the date and time of your visit, and general location derived from your IP address. If a page fails to load, technical details about the error are recorded so it can be fixed.

Information from other sources

I may receive information from service providers, such as payment confirmations from Stripe or subscription status from my email marketing provider. If you apply, I may also look at public information you point me to, such as your website or LinkedIn profile.

3.Please avoid sharing sensitive information

None of my forms ask for sensitive information such as health details, government ID numbers, financial account numbers, or information about your religion, sexual orientation, or immigration status. Please do not include it in applications, uploads, or emails unless it is truly necessary to tell your story. If you choose to share it, I will use it for the purpose you shared it for.

5.Email communications

Newsletter sign-ups

When you join a Girl Tech HQ or podcast list, I add your name and email address to my email marketing provider, Flodesk, so I can send you the updates you asked for.

Applicants

When you submit a podcast guest application or a Girl Tech Icons application, I email you about that application. I also currently add your name, email address, and which form you submitted to Flodesk so I can manage my communications with you. This means you may receive Girl Tech HQ updates and promotional emails as an applicant. You can stop those promotional emails at any time.

How to opt out

Every promotional email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email jessica@girltechhq.com and ask me to stop. After you opt out, I may still send messages you need, such as updates about an application you submitted, a payment you made, or a program you are part of.

Email activity

Email marketing tools like Flodesk can record whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. When those features are turned on, I may use that information to understand which emails are useful. Your email app may let you block images to limit open tracking.

6.How information is shared

Service providers

I share personal information with service providers that help me run Girl Tech HQ, for the purposes described in this policy. They include:

  • Lovable, which hosts this website and provides its database, file storage, administrator sign-in, and error reporting, along with the infrastructure providers it relies on.
  • Flodesk, my email marketing provider, which receives names, email addresses, and the form or list each person signed up through.
  • Stripe, which processes payments.
  • Email providers I use to send and receive email, including the mailbox behind jessica@girltechhq.com.
  • Google Fonts and YouTube, which deliver fonts and videos to your browser, as described in Cookies, browser storage, and third-party content.

Some of these companies, such as Stripe and Google, also use information for their own purposes, like fraud prevention, security, and improving their services, under their own privacy policies.

Public guest profiles

If you are selected as a podcast guest, I may publish a profile on this website with details you authorize, such as your name, headline, story, quote, topics, headshot, links, and episode video. I may also use the materials you provided to promote your episode. I do not publish your full application answers, email address, or phone number.

Legal, safety, and professional reasons

I may also share information when I believe in good faith that it is reasonably needed to:

  • Comply with a law, regulation, court order, or other legal process.
  • Protect the safety, rights, or property of you, me, or others.
  • Investigate or prevent fraud, security problems, or misuse of this website.
  • Work with professional advisers, such as accountants, lawyers, and insurers, who are bound by confidentiality obligations.

Business changes

If Girl Tech HQ is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or part of its business, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. I will seek appropriate protections for that information and update this policy or notify you if required.

Advertising

This website does not currently have advertising pixels, ad tags, or tag managers installed, such as those from Meta, Google Ads, or LinkedIn. If that changes, I will update this policy first and offer any choices the law requires.

7.Cookies, browser storage, and third-party content

Cookies and similar technologies are small pieces of information stored in your browser. Here is how they are used on this website.

Browser storage set by this website

  • If you close the announcement banner at the top of the site, your browser remembers that choice so the banner stays closed.
  • The podcast guest application saves your progress in your browser so you can come back to it. It is cleared when you submit.
  • Administrators who sign in stay signed in through browser storage.

This information stays on your device. This website does not set its own advertising cookies.

Google Fonts

This website loads its fonts from Google Fonts. To deliver them, your browser connects to Google's servers, which means Google receives your IP address and basic browser information.

YouTube videos

Some guest profile pages include YouTube videos. When a page with a video loads, your browser connects to YouTube, and YouTube may set cookies and collect information about your device and viewing under Google's privacy policy.

Stripe

The payment page loads Stripe's checkout. Stripe may use cookies and collect device and browsing information to process your payment, keep it secure, and prevent fraud.

Your browser controls

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and site data. You can also clear this website's stored data at any time. Blocking some of these technologies can stop parts of the website from working, such as embedded videos or checkout. This website does not currently offer a separate cookie settings tool.

8.Linked services and other sites

This website links to other websites and platforms. Some are run by me as part of Girl Tech HQ, and some are run by other companies. They include The Found(her)s Stage application at pitch.girltechhq.com, the Women in Tech Summit at summit.girltechhq.com, the Girl Tech HQ community on Skool, event registration pages on Luma, and my Substack newsletter.

Information you provide on those sites is handled under the privacy notices shown on those sites and by the platforms that host them. This policy applies to girltechhq.com and to the related interactions described here.

9.How long I keep information

I keep personal information for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose I collected it for, and then delete it or keep it in a form that no longer identifies you. How long that is depends on the type of information:

  • Applications are kept while I review them and run the program, and for a reasonable time afterward in case you reapply or a question comes up.
  • Payment and transaction records are kept as long as needed for tax, accounting, refunds, disputes, and other legal obligations.
  • Newsletter information is kept while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, I may keep your email address on a suppression list so I do not email you again.
  • Emails and messages are kept as long as needed to respond and keep a record of our conversation.
  • Technical logs are kept for the periods set by my hosting and service providers.

Copies may remain in backups for a limited time after deletion until those backups are replaced. I may keep information longer when the law requires it or to resolve disputes.

10.How I protect information

I use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. For example, applications can be viewed only by signed-in administrators, and uploaded application files are kept in private storage.

No website, online service, or method of storage is completely secure, so I cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your information has been put at risk, please email me right away at jessica@girltechhq.com.

Public content

Once something is published publicly, such as a guest profile or episode, other people may copy, share, or save it. If you ask me to remove content I published, I will remove it from my own website and channels, but I cannot control copies others have already made.

11.Where information is processed

Girl Tech HQ is based in the United States. My service providers may store and process information in the United States and in other countries where they or their partners operate. Privacy laws in those places may differ from the laws where you live. By using this website, you understand that your information may be processed in those locations.

12.Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live and which laws apply, you may have the right to:

  • Find out whether I process your personal information and get a copy of it.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate.
  • Delete your personal information.
  • Receive your information in a portable format.
  • Object to or limit certain uses of your information.
  • Withdraw consent you have given.
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, or certain kinds of profiling, where those apply.

You can unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time, wherever you live.

How to make a request

Email jessica@girltechhq.com with the subject line "Privacy Request." Tell me what you would like me to do and the email address you used with Girl Tech HQ.

To protect your information, I may need to confirm your identity before I act on a request. I will ask only for what is reasonable for the request, usually confirmation from the email address on file. Please do not send copies of government IDs or other sensitive documents unless I specifically ask for them.

You can ask someone else to make a request for you. I may ask for proof that they are authorized to act on your behalf and may still need to confirm your identity with you.

I will respond within the time required by applicable law. Some requests may be limited by legal exceptions, such as when I must keep records for tax or legal reasons, or when a request would reveal someone else's personal information. If I cannot fully meet your request, I will explain why.

Appeals

If I decline your request and you disagree, you can appeal by emailing jessica@girltechhq.com with the subject line "Privacy Appeal." I will review your appeal and let you know my decision and the reasons for it. If you are not satisfied, you may be able to contact the privacy regulator or attorney general where you live.

Withdrawing consent

If you withdraw consent, I will stop the activity that relied on it going forward. Withdrawing consent does not affect how I used your information before you withdrew it.

No discrimination

I will not treat you unfairly or discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
